Any recent Azores [Sao Miguel] experience?

I’ve made a bunch of reservations! Our first night in Ponta Delgada we’ll try for Ta Gente (no reservation). Second night I booked Tasquinha Vieira. Third night is Louvre Michaelense. We’ll cap off our trip with our last dinner at Bom Pesqueiro. I made a reservation for A Terra in Furnas, and Poco Azul for when we’re in Nordeste. Just have to call ASSM as they do not accept email reservations, only phone. I think the rest of our meals will be okay without reservations - we’ll check it out once we get there.

We are arriving at around 7 am on our first day and can check in at noon. I figure once we get out of the airport it’ll be close to 9, so we’ll have a few hours to pass before we can go take a nap. Thinking of one of the pineapple plantations and a quick bite, along with a supermarket stop. Really excited!

At the Louvre Michaelense, you might want to request a terrace table, as inside, it’s high table seating only and the chairs are close together. You might be more comfortably sitting outside, as our waiter suggested to us.

I hope you enjoy your cozido at A Terra in Furnas. It was so much fun.

For normal supermarket needs, you’ll find a Pingo Doce on the main avenue facing the water (Av. Infante Dom Henrique) next to the Solmar Apartments ,open daily from 8:30-8. We didn’t spend much time at the supermarket because we didn’t have an apartment kitchen to stock.

For an amazing selection of cheeses, breads/sweets and wines and every specialty gourmet item in the Azores, we shopped at deli, the “the Prince of Cheese” (O Príncipe dos Queijos) on Mercadores (one street in), next to the new Nine Dots Boutique Hotel, which BTW has an inviting-looking ETC Osteria Bar, that we didn’t try. Italy meets the Azores.
One can reserve online.
Here’s the menu in case you need it- and it’s definitely kid friendly.

The Prince of Cheese, as I mentioned, is the son of the King of Cheese, whose stop is still inside the municipal market. The market is in the long process of renovation, so the vendors have taken their stands to the underground parking garage.

In Achadinha, our guide to us for lunch to the other lunch buffet place, Os Melos, but Poço Azul looked to have a more contemporary interior and gets equally good reviews.
Lots of “home cooked”, Portuguese comfort foods, all you can eat with tons of choices, in these two buffets.

Have a great trip!

We just returned from our 11 day trip to Sao Miguel. I will try to post a full report in the next week. Until then, all I have to say is, WOW. Especially for anyone in the Northeast who can snag a nonstop flight, this trip is a MUST for foodies and nature lovers.
