Interesting, what dishes are great here?
Steak on a hot rock with herbed butter.
For a long layover, you can uber to Ikea. Eat there and watch the EWR planes from the giant windows in the cafe.
Have not eaten at the airport location, but we love the original 1911 Smokehouse location in Trenton.
Of course, when your ticket to/from international gains admission. The United Club itself has become increasingly overrun, wherever, so some time ago we relinquished membership as road warrior days were mercifully becoming a relic. Besides, in spite of Clear/PreCheck, getting to the airport early enough to âenjoyâ the these-days too bustling lounge no longer makes the journey into a semi-holiday. Thus, weâd never leave the airport for a meal, regardless of the connection time â no near-airport meal between flights can be such a treat; if it were, weâd prefer to plan to break up the journey and get a room . . .
I mentioned my experience in Newark terminal C above but having spent a great deal of time in many airports over the last year I would say be realistic and donât expect to be able to make a layover or wait into an eating experience - with the crowds, the time taken to process through check in, baggage handling, security, immigration etc , uncertainties about path through the airport caused by constant reconstruction and re-routing, you cant count on being able to find a nice meal there; if you think you will need to eat before your flight, bring something along. You will then be pleasantly surprised if you find something tasty to eat or drink rather than being frustrated by hunger, cost or lack of decent choices.
I realize I never reported back. Outgoing I had multiple cancellations and ended up routed through IAD not EWR. Returning I did connect through EWR but was limited by a knee injury. Garden State Diner was at the other end of Terminal C and I was not brazen enough to grab a ride on those golf cart things so I went with Little Purse (aka the dumpling place) which was very near my gate. It was OK, not better than that - killed some time, filled the belly.
So, howâs the knee?
Healing slowly, thanks.
Glad you finished your travels safely!
Weâre on the same page.
As much as we enjoy a special meal whenever we can, seeking one at or near an airport on the way to or from these days is way (way) above our pay grade. We get it that all the security, etc. rigamarole is some seriously Bad Guysâ doing (and flying alone, we are the carry-on everything type (even overseas)) . . . and that noted, if we could ever find a convenient way to schedule the Global Entry interview, weâd be all over it, just to have one more number and line to find . . .
Safe travels to you. May you enjoy all of your trips.
I fly in/out of EWR more than I care to remember (in part because I have status with UA), most of the food and dining establishments at EWR are there just to suck money from your pockets because they have a captive audience (i.e. post TSA security checkpoint).
This isnât an EWR problem exclusively per se, but just a problem generally of most domestic airports (except for maybe BNA).
If I am looking for âfood optionsâ at EWR (or really any airport) I really care more about privacy and comfort to relax and unwind, which usually means a lounge of some sort.
At EWR that means going to Classifieds (behind Saison at Terminal C) which has decent grub but itâs biggest attraction to me is the private bathrooms for its guests.
Oh, so⌠not *really *an option for the filthy masses.
Totally, 100% agree on the Ironbound â a ton of food options which will definitely not disappoint⌠as long as you budget the time. Take a cab for sure.
The last time I picked up a friend who was on a layover in EWR and tried to take her to lunch in the Ironbound, it took twice as long as expected, mainly because parking is a nightmare. But the list of food options is on point.
Hint: Seabraâs Marisqueira has its own parking lot - across the street! Itâs where locals go (ESP for lunch - quite the scene in there), food is authentic, and you get your parking validated at the restaurant when you pay the bill. Give the valet a quick Obrigado, and youâll be on your way.
