American Food

I’ve tasted it once, and found it bitter and antiseptic. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever had.

I made the mistake of smelling it first and almost didn’t try it, but eventually had a sip. That was an immediate NOPE! from me. You definitely had to have grown up with it (I didn’t).

There was a drug store in my hometown that served phosphate drinks in those fancy tall glasses. First the soda jerk would mix your drink in a steel mixing glass and then pour the lime or vanilla phosphate into the “parfait” glass.
Pretty sophisticated for a 10 year old out to burn his way through 4 bits after i bought a Dum Dum sucker and a Sergeant Rock comic book. Then they raised the price of a comic book to 25 cents! Robbery!

I agree about Dr. Pepper. Back when I used to drink sodas more regularly, it was my favorite. I also think that it’s the best diet soda. On days when we get that salt lick I mean the Sam’s Club hot dog, there’s nothing better than a cold diet Dr. Pepper to wash it down.

My ex-sister-in-law was born and raised in West Yorkshire, and to my knowledge has never willingly had root beer a second time in the 30+ years she’s lived in the US. She described the taste as ‘medicinal’.

Well, that is true. But it is good “medicinal”.
It may be an acquired taste. I only have one every ten years or so but i enjoy them when i have one.

Any visitor from any other country I’ve had in my home would agree. “Mediciney” is the usual comment.

I don’t like wintergreen flavor for the same reason. I find them similar.

I had to google that.

As long as you’re googling it, include “Weird Al” in a second search.
