Looks good!
Pickle pizza has become a thing in Canada lately. I haven’t tried it yet . It takes a while for some trends to cross the border.

What I enjoyed about the approach to this pickle pizza was knowing that while way too many joints just use pickles as an extra topping this pizza featured them. Sliced pickles, a garlic-pickle juice-mozz/ricotta cheese base.
Mushroom, pepperoni and green pepper personal-sized deep dish pizza from Formaggio’s in London, Ontario.
Oh my that looks so good.
Where’s John’s pizza from last Saturday?
It looks good as long as it’s hot. Once that cheese sets, I’d be gone.
Is that a thick layer of cheese? Or is there a bechamel / alfredo later?
Thick mozzarella. A Canadian interpretation of Chicago deep dish. Quite rare to find any deep dish in Toronto, ON or London, ON. This is one of 2 places offering a deep dish in London, ON and I think it’s the better of the 2. I don’t know of any Chicago-derived deep dish pizzas in Toronto right now.
There are at least 3 Detroit-style pizzerias in Toronto.
I like the taste and crispiness of Detroit-style, but the crust tears up the roof of my mouth.
There is a deep dish pizza place in Hamilton, ON, which has managed to stay in business, which I have not tried.
We ate my most recent deluxe pizza from Byron before I took a photo.
Here is the small bacon, ham and pineapple from Byron Pizza in London, Ontario yesterday.
A pepperoni mushroom slice and an olive, bacon and mushroom slice from Gino’s Pizza, a Canadian chain with over 100 locations.
This is from the Gino’s Pizza inside Cherryhill Village Mall at 301 Oxford St W. in London, Ontario.
2 slices came to a little under $11 after tax.
Pretty good for older school Ontario pizza. Crispy crust. A bit light on the tomato sauce and generous with the mozzarella.
My frozen Stefano pepperoni pizza
Good pepperoni and sauce for a frozen pizza from the regular grocery store. Crust is a little more cracker like at the edge than I prefer, but slightly doughy in a good way under the sauce and cheese.
Mac’s All Dressed, pepperoni, mushrooms and green pepper. $32 CAD, excellent.
I must speak out here.
It’s a noble attempt but fundamentally flawed.
The sauce need to go ON TOP.
whew. I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks.
When I lived in Vancouver, BC I’d have to drive over the border to Bellingham, WA to get anything close.
Sadly, as far as I know, Toronto doesn’t even have any places attempting a Chicago deep dish right now. The one I posted from, above, is in London, ON, halfway between Toronto and Detroit.
There is a place in Hamilton, Ontario, which has been around for years. I haven’t stopped by to try it yet. Maybe this year.
From their site:
The cheese pull and construction on that look appropriate.
I’ll allow it.
Okay, good . I’ll try to visit next month.
Thatza pizza pie!
I went to college in Chicago. Pizzeria Uno, and Pizzeria Due (both owned by the same entity). A half century ago. Yuum. Doit right.
