A Leeds Diary, December 22--31, 2024

Devon fudge and penuche are acceptablish to me. I’ve had both. But I’ve reached a stage in life when I have to make my sugar-intake count. Tablet is worth it, as are Dharwar pedhas in India (both confections gaining color from the caramelization of milk and sugar). Other fudges are not. A personal statement, nothing more.

Can’t go wrong with either.

Good report of your trip to the “dark side” of the Pennines. Nice photos as well. Leeds is just over our “60 minute drive” rule for restaurant visits, so it’s rare that we get the chance to eat in the city.

Your mention of the San Carlo mini-chain was interesting, not least as their branch near Manchester airport is our favourite Italian - I don’t know anywhere in the area that is better. It’s also a rare occurrence for northern mini-chains in that it’s an export from Manchester to Yorkshire, rather than the more common other way round.
