Just the word ‘luncheonette’ brings back a time, long ago. “Let’s go to the luncheonette today”. I knew shopping would be involved afterwards.
I remember eating at Woolworth’s in SF at 5th and Market, at the cable car turn around. It wasn’t special but it was reasonable.

Li’s Knife-cut Noodle of San Mateo has opened a branch in Berkeley at 2126 Center St. According to Oaklandside Nosh, they offer unlimited noodle refills; can that be true?
In the Daily Cal, owner Jian Han says it’s so: “I think our price is reasonable,” Han said. “We have unlimited free noodle (refills). You order one bowl, and if you don’t think it’s enough, you get a free refill.”

Excerpt:
Hot City Barbeque has thrived for 25 years in this longtime farming town that doubles as a quick detour from the freeway drudgery. The purveyor of smoked meat specializes in tri-tip and completely skips brisket — this is a California barbecue restaurant after all — in favor of other staples like pork ribs, beef ribs, pulled pork, smoked links and barbecue chicken. And there are, of course, the classic sides: mac and cheese (if you can get it), collard greens, mashed potatoes, smoky baked beans and toasted dinner rolls.
