Sacramento gets into the Michelin guide!
TL;DR - Kin Thai, Majka, Pho Momma
I’ve eaten at Kin Thai. It’s delicious.
Restaurants from Sacramento are include in the Michelin guide for quite some time now - I think there are currently ~15 restaurants in it (including two with a star)
I knew that. I worded that poorly. I was more excited that these are more ‘regular’, as opposed to fine dining establishments like Localis or Kitchen.
Kin Thai is one of my favorites, so it was nice to see it rewarded.

In Mission Local, Maria C. writes about the Krispy Krunch Chicken next to the 24th St BART -
excerpt:
Me, I’m a thigh woman. The thighs at KKC are big, fat, meaty, and always hot. (I’ve driven across the Bay with a box of KKC and it was still warm, 20 minutes later.) The flesh inside is unfailingly tender, steamy and juicy, while the crispy, crunchy, lightly spiced coating is the stuff of dreams. This is what all fried chicken strives to be. It is why chickens are born; it is where they go to self-actualize. Ask Maslow.

For North Bay fans!
Another honor for Luke Tsai. His article on Kaitlyn Bui, the Dungess crab fisher on Ocean Beach in SF, has been included in The Best American Food and Travel Writing 2025 to be published October 21 by Mariner.
I’ve been following Luke since 2012 when he started at the East Bay Express in the footsteps of John Birdsall and Jonathan Kauffman. He has long been the most creative food writer in Northern California.
Here are links to the Bui article and more.
After submitting my stuff for YEARS, I am so excited my profile of Kaitlyn Bui—Ocean Beach's amazing, infectiously enthusiastic Dungeness crab fishing influencer—was one of 20 pieces selected for the 2025 edition of Best American Food and Travel Writing! https://t.co/RjuO8Z1dxC pic.twitter.com/I92fenhfrR

Just put that on “notify me” on Libby! I’d forgotten about those (Best American Food and Travel Writing)!
What’s going on at the SF Chronicle?
They are hiring a new Food and Wine editor and a new Deputy F & W editor.
P.s. I’m available.

Apparently SFs AAPI Cocktail Week is back as of Sunday, but the only mention I’ve seen of it anywhere has been a brief blurb in this roundup from Diablo Magazine:
Has there been any coverage elsewhere? I haven’t seen a word on Eater or the other usual suspects.
