I definitely made some back in my restaurant days but don’t remember what it was served with, maybe peaches or blueberries.

Quite popular also in Europe - had it for example a few times in Portugal this year and last year in Italy
I used to get it at a gelato shop in NYC run by an Argentinian.
word on the street is that the next 20% wine sale is August 22-24.
The hard shell tortillas that come in boxes are an abomination. Sorry if that offends anyone. I ‘bake’ mine by hanging them over the oven rack bars in the oven or pan fry them crispy. Totally different texture.
Correct! Also I got an email saying today only is 25% off with the app.
$1.99 a jar. This will allow me to channel my inner Geoffrey Zakarian in terms of frequency if nowhere near his expertise.
I bought the Mezzetta Calabrian a few days ago and have been using it. Good ingredients like extra virgin olive oil (no soy or canola listed) and fresh garlic.
A week ago at GO I found the Mezzetta Spicy Pickled Onions with oregano in a 16 oz. jar for $0.79 and picked up 5 jars.
Silver Ave (San Francisco) location:

A decent haul today at the PA store. Didn’t know Cabot makes Mac and cheese.

The Rao’s Arrabbiata pizza is actually kinda crappy.
Today’s trip to the PA store yielded some interesting finds.
At the South San Francisco location:

SF South Van Ness has pork; pork and shrimp; and vegan Mila soup dumplings
Are the vegan ones any good?
i thought they were fine after i sauced them up. the value inched the score higher no doubt (40 for $10).
I saw these (Los Michis canned diced green chile) at GO and bought a couple of cans. Can’t find anything on the interwebz about them. Anyone try them or know about them? Canned in California. I assume they’re a mild to medium green chile, except in a 27 oz can for .99 ¢, instead of the tiny 7 oz can for $3-4 bucks.
I’m on a chile verde tear, batch cooking chicken chile verde. I just realized a 2 cup frozen portion would make a nice fast soup, just add 2-3 cups of chicken broth. Something to pull out when you’re sick.
Otherwise, GO seems a little short on weird cool items but that might just be the Alameda store.

$3.99/6 oz. wedge in plastic, Aphrodite Greek PDO Authentic Feta made with sheep and goat milk, aged 3 months in wooden barrels. A little creamier and not as crumbly as regular feta, it has notes of almond and walnut. and may be the best feta I’ve tried. Made from milk of grazing animals on slopes of central Greece.
Other than the feta, my recent visits to GO have been nearly total busts. I’m seeing fewer and fewer item that interest me. This may be the result of corporate streamlining and cutbacks as noted in the linked article, below, leading to a loss of adventure that shopping there used to hold.
There were more signs noting “advertised” specials in store but that’s not usually what I look for.

I found nothing of interest at GO this week. A 16 oz. tub of guacamole was $9.99 while the equivalent at Trader Joe’s is $4.99. There is no longer a Nosh section for organics and specialty items which I used to cover. This store is corporate owned so its possible that the independently-owned stores are still showing some creativity, or not.
According to articles at GroceryDive and other sites there has been turmoil at the corporate level and the result appears to have turned this store into Safeway-lite.
I’ll give Oakland a few more visits and the Fall Wine Sale 20% off is coming soon. If things don’t improve I will rethink continuing my decades of GO adventure.
the one i frequent most is still independent. but corporate is really ramming that store brand down our throats. deals are still there for the taking, but often requires astute regional pricing awareness.
recently the store started pricing the philly cream cheese bricks at $5.29, essentially the same as the Safeway price (typically the’ve been priced between 1.99 and 2.99 consistently - i buy a fair amount of cream cheese). i complained to management and they dropped the price back down to 2.99. i try to keep them honest, but at some point it will get too exhausting.
Yes, they used to have Sabra hummus super cheap almost all the time. Now the “sale price” is $2.50, but you can get Trader Joe’s hummus for $2 - and I like it better. Their expansion of GO brand products has been a turn off for me.
