2024 Food Garden

I’m a bit of a pack rat for containers ,and fabric drawstring bags that sometimes come with costume jewellery and make-up bonuses. Do you have any of those hiding around?

I’ve been using upside-down plastic pots from other plant purchases as plant protectors if I don’t have enough clear plastic plant hats / cloches for my smaller plants.

These are the ones I used in the picture of the fig ( which was on the ground within days, but I did get the fig ).

Ah, thanks. That looks close to what I need.

I read a post about them on the Longwood Gardens website and they linked to these, so I ordered them. Def much larger than I expected! Turns out they are the right size for my big dahlias, though. I haven’t looked if this maker makes smaller bags. In general, the quality is v good.

Thanks! I found some on Amazon that are 4X6", which is probably right for me. Would be even righter if I didn’t have to buy 50, but here we are.

Yes, I was also very surprised at the number of bags I came to own.

In the better-late-than-never department: peak strawberry.

Our warm-weather produce continues to struggle due to lack of … warm weather. Our cool-weather veg are going gangbusters - bring on the stir-fry!

Ours took several years - 4? 5? These were probably 2-year trees when purchased, and this was on top of that. Don’t recall, exactly. Last year was the first year we had a real harvest.

Food for the soul. DH has taken up growing roses this year. Good hobby!

There are roses bred for edible petals, the “Flavorette” series. There’s “honey-apricot” and “pear” flavored varieties. I have the honey-apricot one, but it’s really small and hasn’t flowered.

Our first real harvest of red currants. The lot shown here is 2 lbs. We hope to have a like amount in a few days, at which point I plan to make currant jelly.

I lost my rose bushes during the pandemic… long story. Sunshine really loved those rose bushes. This is our last rose.

I cropped it and use it as my avatar.
