Oh wow that was fast. I can see her moving into opinion/cultural critic, but I wonder why she moved out of the position before they had a new critic hired.

love hate relationship with the Chronicle…trying to remember what the love part is…

That was fast, pandemic probably made it faster. At least she didn’t hang on for years until it was a joke and every restauranteur lived in fear. Perhaps critics should have a limited texture, keeps critics from gaining too much influence. Of course the internet, social media and places like HO and CH changed things. Maybe they’ll hire within. Have to give the Chron for the latest rendition of food critics, a whole team and diverse. Use to be one guy and had crazy influence…beet salad with goat cheese and cute waiters anyone?

Agreed, there were several places that I wouldn’t have known about without Soleil Ho’s reporting, but I never felt that way with Bauer, he had a specific type of restaurant he liked.

The Chron has 3 other food critics, Ho was the primary/senior but not the only one. Cesar Hernandez has been getting the biggest push on reviews recently.

I had a very nice meal at Parche a couple of weeks ago. I especially enjoyed the Pisco & Tonic cocktail.
