SFGate: I think I found the cheapest burger in San Francisco

Hawaiian Drive Inn offers a cheeseburger for a mind-boggling $3.75

https://www.sfgate.com/food/article/hawaiian-drive-inn-sf-affordable-burger-18272296.php

“It’s mainly to have something that is affordable, especially with the high inflation and especially for the school kids — there are so many schools around us. We do see the crowd of students coming over for burgers and fries after school,”

Nice write up. Other items are SF priced. In the Portola District.

I worked in FiDi for a few years…when a decent $5 dollar lunch was a thing. Then it went to $10 after the recession. Lunch out now seems to hover around $20+.

I’m Victor and I grew up around different parts of Oakland, CA. In the “My Oakland” series, I highlight a few areas of the town I spent a lot of time in, and of course, that means eating a lot in these areas. First up is Oakland Chinatown, featuring my cousins I spent a lot of my time with growing up in the 90s into the 2000s. Spots highlighted:

• Vien Huong •

Santa Cruz Harbor anchovy alert -

Anchovy Alert - August 29, 2023

In recent days, the harbor has experienced a large influx of baitfish, which appear to be primarily anchovies. When large schools of fish inundate the harbor, it can reduce oxygen levels to a point where fish populations become stressed or die-off en masse. This has occurred several times in the harbor’s history, with the last large-scale die-off occurring in 2014.

Breaking Bread is a three-part docuseries from Sacramento-based production company Moonracer Films, airing on Thursday, September 7 on KCRA, following the NFL kick-off game at about 9 p.m. The show features Sacramento cooks, chefs, farmers, and food workers throughout three 30-minute episodes. Ryan Royster, Last Supper Society co-founder and former Moonracer staff, says it was just a matter of time until a culinary region like Sacramento got Netflix-level storytelling. “It’s one of the most important food-producing regions of our country,” Royster says. “It’s the bread basket of California.”

Breaking Bread debuts on September 7 right after the NFL kick-off game on KCRA, about 9 p.m. The second episode airs on Sunday September 10, and the final episode on September 17.
