Jeff Edalatpour in the East Bay Express -

The Kailua roll’s Hawaiian nomenclature must come from the tangy addition of pickled mango. I loved the asparagus crunch as it paired with marinated shiitake and ginger shoyu tomato. The presentation was suggestive of a Cubist sculpture. Geometric shapes were patched together in vegetable shades of tomato red, asparagus green and mango yellow.

Soleil Ho recently adds Imperial Soup at 723 Webster St in Oakland Chinatown in a Spring 2022 update to her Top 25 Restaurants list and highlights their double-boiled soup -

Double-boiling, a technique that involves cooking a small ceramic pot of ingredients within a larger pot of boiling water, is a gentler way of cooking that extracts all the flavor of the proteins and aromatics into the soup. A soup of abalone, mushrooms, chicken and medicinal herbs ($11.50) is nourishing, complete with a satisfying hit of umami.

great, definitely want to try Tane Vegan! From the East Bay Express article by Jeff Edalatpour:

… the single spear I tasted at Tane Vegan in Berkeley was a revelation. In the okra competition at the edible Olympics, Japan just edged India off its gold pedestal. The chef, Lawson Huang, distilled okra down to its primal, okra-y essence. … We also ordered the tomato nigiri, …
… Huang provided a general outline for turning a Roma tomato into a trompe l’oeil piece of tuna. Burnished and buffed to a matte gloss finish, the peeled tomato is hollowed out to make it “nigiri-sized.” The kitchen staff marinates it in a “secret sauce” that contains orange juice, soy sauce, water and sugar. After an hour, they drain the sauce out.
… With a soft opening on March 16, Tane Vegan has yet to add dessert, but our server said it was in the works.

Pomella ](https://www.pomellaoakland.com/)’s “everything but the plate” seder plate comes with one cup of charoset, one cup of hazeret, a lamb shank bone, four hard boiled eggs, and one pound of matzah. Chef Mica Talmor also creates more contemporary California-Israeli cuisine like cod cakes in tomato sauce, brisket tagine with dried fruits and preserved lemons, and potato shallot kugel. Also of great importance: their pavlova kit with rose cream and berries.

Melanie Wong on twitter recommends Nari Thai, 1625 Post St, in SF -

Today a friend asked for a Thai rec for an upcoming visit to SF. I'll recommend same to #KQEDforum listeners . . . @Nari_sf. Seafood-forward dishes yet plenty of options for vegans, feminine finesse and full bore on salt/sweet/sour/spicy/funky elements. https://t.co/6DJ6VTkCgT

Nice write up. I got a chili dog before the pandemic. Low key as in zero marketing and friendly. Their hot dogs are sold in local supermarkets…nice snap.

I live near the Casper’s with the great sign. There’s another Casper’s in Hayward, on Foothill near the 580 entrance, but it has the '60s-era logo.

Casper’s has an employees union. Like ten years back there was a write up about a long time employees, worked 50 years…and she got a pension. Gotta love a place like this.
