Last year we only went to Paris with a day trip to Reims, but in years past we spent time in the Dordogne, Brittany, Normandy, and in Provence. I haven’t made any plans yet for this year, but who knows? It also depends on when our various Parisian friends have time.
According to Atabula, a site that addresses to food professionals, food journalists Ézéchiel Zérah and Franck Pinay-Rabaroust just wrote an article “Michelin 2017: 40 forgotten tables”, obviously disagreeing with certain decision of the Michelin team.

I have been a big fan of L’Ami Jean for more than 10 years, I think they indeed merit of a star, but I think the chef Jégo wants to stay out of the system. (He threw twice the Michelin inspectors out of the restaurants). I like Pottoka a lot too, been returning several times. Actually both restaurants are doing Basque cooking, and quite stable, with no bad surprises. (I have been there a few months ago, maybe I will try to whip up posts on both places. At times, places like this exist forever, they don’t seem to need anymore write up…)
I also like Porte 12 for the cooking, but not for their portions (too small! was still hungry when paying to leave the restaurant).
I’ve read a lot about L’Ami Jean on chowhound. Some love it; others have complained of rushed service. I take it that you would recommend that we try it?
They used to have 2 or even 3 services for dinner, so I guess those complained didn’t like to finish their meal in 2 hours frame. But it was the past. Now they raise the price, and you can sit all the night you want. They still have a lunch menu, I don’t quite remember the price 45€ (?) that you can have 5-6 courses or à la carte. Although they have a tasting menu carte blanche. Not to miss is their Riz au lait.
With so many places that offers tasting menu, here there is a bistrot that still has an à la carte menu! Just beware that their meal is really big!
