[Mottram, Cheshire] Bull's Head

Back for lunch for the first time since 2019.

A ham and Quicke’s Cheddar croquette was bang on the money as a starter. Bags of flavour, enhanced by a mustard dressing and a celeriac slaw for a bit of crunch. That was followed by a generously filled rump steak sandwich from the “light bites” section of the menu, It comes with the bread slathered with Dijon mustard and tarragon may0. There’s fries, of course.

Halloumi fries and tomato salsa presented no surprises. A crisp coating to the chip sized pieces of squeaky cheese and the salsa nicely pokey. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a Brunning & Price pub and not seen a braised lamb dish on the menu. It’s something I’d regularly and, with such a gap since last time, it was an obvious choice for today. Very long cooked lamb, pulling away from the bone with just a touch from the fork, There;s a slab of a very decent Dauphinoise potato, carrot puree, some mixed greens and a light gravy. Nice.
