Mexican in Redwood City (and other cities closeby)

Since moving recently to Redwood City we of course made long list of different restaurants in the Bay Area from many different countries we want to visit once it will hopefully easier. One area we are still haven’t tested too much about is Mexican food in our area. There seem to be a high concentration in RWC of Mexican places but sometimes makes it hard to pick out the good ones - so where should we go in RWC (and surrounding areas) for good tacos, different regional Mexican foods etc

Los Carnalitos for tacos.

La Casita Chilanga for DF style torta.

A little dated but here’re some ideas:

Honestly I found it really hard to pick out the good ones because there are many average ones there. It takes a lot of trial and error…

Not Mexican but there used to be a place called Pupuseria Nineth that whipped up some great pupusas. But they are no more. So gems like those can be found, but needs some dedication.

I saw that thread but was hoping for newer information (especially with covid changing a lot of things). And there are so many tacos options that we don’t eat enough Mexican to even start dipping into it and were looking for some ideas of higher chances of a good meal (there is only limited stomach capacity and you don’t want to “waste” it with a lousy dish (especially with a still limited number of take out meals we are doing at this point)

We like La Fonda de Los Carnalitos, very cute place, gorditas are outstanding! Not just your run of the mill taco joint…

Is La Fonda de Los Carnalitos the newish B&M space of the Los Carnalitos truck?

Yes, brick & mortar, its on Veterans Blvd couple blocks north of Kaiser. Nicely decorated with Mexican tiles, colorful paint job & very nice plates & glassware. Full bar for those who need it… The gorditas are made to order, so deliciosa!!! Quite a few menu items not seen on most menus. A little pricey but we feel it’s worth it…
