[Melbourne] Sunday brunch at Gilson, South Yarra

Domain Road in South Yarra, near the intersection with Leopold Street, is lined with a few good cafes & eateries facing the Royal Botanical Gardens. Very pleasant stretch to walk around and grab a cup of coffee or some very good pastries from Baker D. Chirico:

One of the popular spots for a Sunday morning brunch is Gilson, one of those places which seemed to be open all the time (it actually opens from 6am onwards on weekdays! 7am on weekends).

Gilson has an Italian-accented menu for lunch and dinner, but also offers extensive breakfast/brunch options.

The Morning Salad with grains (freekeh, lentils), topped with poached egg was good.

The Eggs Benedict here has some of the richest, creamist Hollandaisse sauce ever. Thick-cut ham was lovely and toasted muffins were perfect.

Egg and bacon roll was another disarmingly plain offering, but made very tasty through Gilson’s use of quality ingredients.
