[Los Cristianos, Tenerife, Spain] Chiringuito Atlanticus

Foody wisdom says that, if you want great seafood for lunch in Los Cris, you have to go to El Cine. Don’t get me wrong here, the food and the atmosphere at Cine is pretty good but, to my mind, you’re going to get better food at Atlanticus. And there’s a view of the ocean and Las Vistas beach.

There was a special on offer – sea bream, salad & Canarian spuds. The salad – the usual green stiff with added grated carrot & beetroot – comes as a starter, along with some bread.

There’s a whole fish for each of you. It’s slit open, like a book, the bones removed and then grilled. There’s a little garnish of fried onion, pepper and garlic, together with a few spuds. The fish was so fresh it was almost still flapping about – the waiter said it have only been caught the day before. And it had been cooked perfectly – moist flesh and, wonder of wonders, really crisp skin.

No, it wasn’t the cheapest lunch around, at €15, but it really was one of the best value for money meals we ate on the three week trip.
