Let's introduce ourselves and get to know one another better

Could some explain please how I reply to a post so it appears in quotes? It’s not a simple as hitting reply I’ve discovered- which is how I assumed it would work!

A BIG HUNGRY ONION HELLO TO ALL OUR NEW USERS!!!

My apologies for not being able to keep up and do individual greetings to everyone but please do accept my warmest welcome!! Welcome to our little section of the foodieverse on the internet!!

I see that many of you have either joined years ago, but never participated or knew of use but never joined. Since you are all here now I wonder if I can ask a couple of questions to help us continue to improve the site.

1.) If you joined before, but never participated why? (outside of obviously Chow closing)
2.) If you are new or previously joined but not participated, what made you choose us now vs. other options?
3.) What are your main objectives from a food forum like this /Chow?

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to myself or any member / moderator.
(do we have a list of moderators we can supply so people know?)

Sincerely,
NotJr
(Moderator NJ Board)

I just recently joined, having been on Chowhound for the past 14 years or so. I did not know about Hungry Onion previously.

In terms of objectives, being Toronto-based I am mainly looking to share and receive discerning food intel for the Toronto area. However as I slowly start to travel again, I also will value the same intel for places that I will go to.

Fantastic! There’s a whole lot of good eating here, looking forward to discovering it and dishing about it on the PNW board. I nearly moved to Bellingham (SO PRETTY) but we decided against for various reasons. Hoping to get back up there for recreational visits someday soon.

We will swap recs for our weekend visits! We are actually going down on Sat to grab the kid for his spring break. We moved up here for a WWU job… from Los Angeles. Slightly different pace of life! But that was 15 years ago.

I used to live in Houston before 1989. I still miss it.

  2. I love cookware and knives! I was a member of the cookware forum on Chowhound. I lurked and read, mainly. Oh! and I am an avid Corningware collector. I have nearly every P series Blue Cornflower piece.
  3. The homemade barbecue chicken pizza my husband and I made last night. It was phenomenal.
  4. I have seen every single episode of That 70’s Show 3 times.

Welcome @Silvblu1 . I stopped at the Smokey Pig in Bowling Green on a weeklong trip from Pittsburgh to Gatlinburg to Nashville and back to Pittsburgh, between 2 back-to-back family weddings on Victoria Day weekend and Memorial Day weekend about 8 years ago. It stands out as a meal that I enjoyed, where I hadn’t done any research. Other than Smokey Pig in Bowling Green, I haven’t had that much BBQ, just Hill Country in DC , a few places in NC , SC, and NYC, and a few places in Canada that try their best to replicate various regional styles. It was the BBQ I’ve enjoyed most, in terms of being to my liking, so far. Also my first time to enjoy Derby Pie. The menu looks the same  http://smokeypigbbq.com/pages/menu_1.html

Yes! Smokey Pig has great barbeque! They also have the best vinegar slaw. It’s the vinegar slaw I measure all others by. I’m glad you enjoyed your meal there.

An excellent resource for good barbecue is the Campaign for Real Barbecue, http://www.truecue.org. There are lists at the True 'Cue USA link of places that cook traditional barbecue – with wood only, no gas or electrical heat. You also might be interested in my blog, John tanners bbq blog, which has reviews of a whole lot of places – and there’s a pretty recent post about barbecue places in the DC area.

Hi, I go by chienrouge. Long ago I posted and read chowhounds and was reminded from the NY Times article. I live in LA. I have kids now so my budget and drinking abilities are diminished. But i still like intel on the latest taco spots, bbq places and sushi from time to time. I do more cooking now than before too so surely some stuff to learn. I put mango in my banana bread yesterday! Cheers to everyone!
