Gastromaniac [South Lake Tahoe, CA]

I’ve been going up to Lake Tahoe for 25 years, and honestly there is a lot of mediocre food up there, so I am always happy to see new places to try.
Gastromaniac, a newish (opened at the beginning of the pandemic) Italian place is right on highway 50 in a strip mall (Harrison is a small road that uns parralel to 50). Fresh homemade pasta and pizzas, nice wine and beer list and comfortable casual space. You pick your pasta shape from what is in the case, then pick a sauce - bolognese, pesto, pomodoro or 3 cheese. We got the fussili and mafaldine with with bolognese, a couple pizzas and market salad. All were excellent, perfectly cooked and the pizzas were really good as well, thin crust but crispy. The tiramisu and canoli were also great. I was kind of shocked it wasn’t jam packed on a Saturday night, but I suppose the location away from the main casino drag makes it less popular (and quite a few people came in for take-out). Really nice to see this level of cooking in Lake Tahoe at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

Char on the crust looks really nice.

My favorite place in South Lake Tahoe. Fried artichoke was excellent. Love their mafaldine pasta with bolognese.
