The newly-released Asia’s Best 50 Restaurants 2022 by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna on 29 March 2022:

Some interesting entries:

  • Bangkok’s rustic Michelin-starred Raan Jay Fai at No. 46.
  • Kuala Lumpur’s Dewakan at No. 50 - I still don’t quite get it. Its cuisine is elaborate, but there are many other spots in KL which are much better, e.g. DC by Darren Chin.
  • Bangkok’s Le Du at No. 4, ahead of other more polished spots in Japan, HK and Singapore, came as quite a surprise to me.
  • HK’s The Chairman, always reliable. Good to see it at No. 5.

Amazing list! Good to see some ‘normal’ restaurants like indeed Jay Fai, The Chairman, and the Colombo crab restaurant, though wish it would have been more.

Seems quite a bit of fluctuations this year though with quite a number moving into and out of top 50. I do wonder how much of this is due to many raters not being able to travel
